About Me

Kia Ora, I’m Ayla

A compassionate, strengths-based psychologist with over 10 years of experience, I’m dedicated to supporting individuals, families, and communities to navigate life’s challenges, build resilience, and thrive. My practice is guided by a holistic worldview, shaped by my Māori whakapapa (heritage), which considers the whole person—mind, body, family, and environment.

My Professional Journey

Over the past decade, I have worked extensively across New Zealand, and the Northern Territory. My work has allowed me to walk alongside the most vulnerable, from working with our Youth as a School Counsellor, to supporting remote Indigenous communities.

These experiences have given me a deep understanding of modern age challenges, and diverse cultural perspectives, which have strengthened my commitment to open minded, culturally informed, client-centered care.

Each session is tailored to each client’s unique needs, drawing from evidence-based approaches, including:

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Behaviour Activation
Motivational Interviewing
Brief Solution-Focused Therapy

A Bit About Me Personally

Being a wife, to my supportive husband, and a mum, to my beautiful daughter, are among the greatest joys of my life. And of course my fur babies always keep things lively and fun!

My personal connection to the defence force—as the wife of an ex-New Zealand soldier—gives me a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by military families. This perspective strongly shapes my work with clients connected to the defence and first responder communities.

Outside of work, you’ll often find me on the rugby field (or cheering from the side-lines), exploring the stunning Northern Territory, or unwinding with friends and family.
